Back NHS England Procurement of Mobile ECG devices:

The NHS is in the process of procuring and distributing mobile ECG devices. There is £0.5 million for the project. This will be spread across the 15 Academic Health Science Networks, based on their weighted population. The AHSNs were asked in April to express an interest and advise an estimate of the number and type of devices they wished for their area. The final number and type of device is close to the original expression of interest.

Most of the devices chosen are AliveCor but there are also some of My Diagnostic, Cardiocity rhythm pads, imPulse and Watch BP being purchased.

A plan for local expressions of interest and distribution plan is currently being developed at AHSN level and the hope is that the devices will be ready for distribution sometime in September.

NHS England will require  an audit of how the devices have been distributed and evidence that they have led to more atrial fibrillation being detected. There is discussion amongst AHSN leads to produce a plan to ensure the most effective use of the devices.
