Heart failure is a significant global public health crisis and the burden of heart failure in the UK is significant.
The unmet need in HF is deceptively high and continues to grow.
Design and resourcing of HF pathways across the UK is a major source of variance.
For example:
- Prevalence of HF
- Availability of diagnostics e.g. NTproBNP and echo.
- Ratio of heart failure specialist nurses.
- Specialist HF services in the community, hospital or both.
- Availability of comprehensive integrated HF services across the HF spectrum (including HFrEF, HFmrEF & HFpEF).
- Role of MDTs and cardiac networks.
- Early systematic identification of frailty and last year of life, and care planning.
