We were delighted to host our second Scotland Conference, entitled 'Population health in Scotland: Tackling primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease', specifically for healthcare professionals in Scotland, on Wednesday, 13th November 2024 at voco Grand Central, Glasgow.
With a focus on primary and secondary CVD prevention, the face-to-face conference covered important topics, including women’s health and the risk of CVD, interpretation of ECGs for diagnosing cardiac conditions, and the latest guideline updates across cardio-renal-metabolic diseases.

Dr Jim Moore
Past President of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, GP, GPSI Cardiology, Gloucestershire
Dr Moore is a GP in Gloucestershire with a special interest in Cardiovascular Medicine and Past President of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, spearheading significant changes in this organisation. He lectures extensively across the UK.
He has been heavily involved in National CVD advisory groups, guidelines and working parties. He was a member of the NICE Chronic Heart Failure in Adults Guideline committee (2016-2018) and was a board member of British Society for Heart Failure.
Dr Moore has provided cardiovascular clinical support to local commissioning organisations for over two decades and more recently to Cardiac Networks in the South-West. He is currently Clinical Co-Lead (Primary Care) for the West of England Integrated Cardiac Clinical Network.
Dr Moore is the National Clinical Co- Lead (Primary Care) for the National Cardiac Transformation Programme which has included working closely on NHSE initiatives such as Managing Heart Failure @Home and more recently chaired a group that developed the National (NHSE) guidance for the Virtual Ward care for people with heart failure (in publication).
He has been involved in the establishment and subsequent development of the community-based Gloucestershire Heart Failure service since its inception in 2003 where he continues to work as a GPSI.
Dr Sundhya Raman
PCCS Lifestyle Medicine Representative, BSc (hons) MBBS DPhil (Oxon) Dipl IBLM/BSLM
Dr Sundhya Raman is a medical doctor (Guys, Kings and St Thomas’s, 2007) with a BSc in Pharmacology & Physiology, a PhD (DPhil) in Genetics/Epigenetics is qualified in Lifestyle Medicine with the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine and the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine.
She began her career as a clinical scientist, and aside from her DPhil at Oxford she worked in labs around the world including at Yale, University of Sydney and at the Wolfson Centre for Age Related Diseases, London.
Dr Raman is the founder and director of a lifestyle medicine health consultancy (My Wellness Doctor) which provides advice and support to educate and empower individuals to prevent illness, reverse disease, and optimise mental and physical wellbeing using evidence-based lifestyle modalities.
She has created a programme using lifestyle change to lower cholesterol in a primary care setting, and is the lead for virtual group consultations for diabetes at Plant Based Health Online.
Dr Raman regularly presents talks and teaching on lifestyle medicine and healthy ageing to both medical professionals (GP registrars, medical students, MIMs Learning Live, PCN training events) as well as to the lay public, including a focus on specific risks and solutions for BAME groups. She authored the diet section for JBS4 and co-authored the section on physical activity. She contributes to media publications on lifestyle advice to prevent chronic disease.
Prof Lis Neubeck
Professor of Cardiovascular Health in the School of Health and Social Care and Head of the Centre for Cardiovascular Health at Edinburgh Napier University
Professor Lis Neubeck is cardiac nurse with over 25 years of experience in a range of cardiac in-patient and out-patient settings. She is Professor of Cardiovascular Health in the School of Health and Social Care and Head of the Centre for Cardiovascular Health at Edinburgh Napier University. Her research focuses on innovative solutions to secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, identification and management of atrial fibrillation, and use of digital health to improve access to health care. Lis is the NHS Research Scotland Cardiovascular Clinical Network Lead, and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) patient forum lead.
Paul Forsyth
Lead Clinical Pharmacist Cardiology, FRPharmS (Consultant)
Paul is Lead Pharmacist for Clinical Cardiology (NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde). He has specialist interests clinically in heart failure and more widely in population-level workforce skills development. He is one of the first five pharmacists in Scotland to pass RPS Consultant Pharmacist credentialing. He has previously presented research at various national and international meetings and has co-authored a European consensus statement on peripartum cardiomyopathy. He has published two textbook chapters in heart failure and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications on heart disease and/or pharmacist practice.
Dr Yassir Javaid
MA (Cantab) FRCP FRCGP PGDip Cardiology, GPwSI Cardiology
Dr Javaid qualified from Cambridge University and completed his VTS training in Northampton. He has a specialist interest in cardiology and echocardiography and was a clinical lead in the Northamptonshire Community Cardiology service, which had a focus on patients with heart failure and valve disease. He was also the primary care Cardiovascular lead for the East Midlands Clinical Network from 2013-2020. He was named Pulse “GP of the Year” in 2015 for his work in reducing stroke emergency admissions in the East Midlands. He is on the editorial board for the British Journal of Cardiology and a trustee of Heart Valve Voice.
Dr Nick Spath
Cardiologist
Cardiologist trained in London and Edinburgh, where I’ve worked for nearly 15 years. Specialising in cardiac electrophysiology and implantable devices with an interest in inherited cardiac conditions, and research experience in imaging of cardiomyopathy with MRI. Currently undertaking a post-CCT fellowship in invasive electrophysiology at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.
Dr Caroline J Coats
MBBS BSc, MSc, PhD, FRCP Consultant Cardiologist, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
Dr Coats, a graduate of Imperial College School of Medicine, London, trained in Cardiology in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and New Zealand. In her capacity as Lead Clinician for National Network for Inherited Cardiac Conditions, Dr Coats has played a pivotal role in guiding the direction of NHS services across Scotland. Her specialist interests are in heart failure, cardiovascular genetics, biomarkers, and imaging with a focus on diagnosis and treatment of cardiomyopathy. She holds a Career Researcher Fellowship from the Chief Scientific Office and serves as Principal Investigator for several global clinical trials. She has a long-standing interest in History of Medicine and is Archivist to the British Cardiovascular Society.
Dr Colin Petrie
Cardiologist and Physician in NHSE Lanarkshire
Cardiologist and physician in NHS Lanarkshire. After qualification from Aberdeen spent time in Glasgow, Australia then back to Glasgow before taking consultant post in 2010. Active clinical trial researcher in all aspects of cardiology but expertise in heart failure. Obtained a PhD from University of Groningen, Netherlands with academic heart failure cardiologists. One of few cardiologist who still does general internal medicine and is the Training programme director for medical registrars in Lanarkshire.

The nearest car park is the NCP Oswald Street which is a 500-metre walk from the hotel. Make your way to level 5 of the car park where there is a pedestrian entrance/exit leading to platform 15 of Central Station. The entrance to the hotel is within the Central station concourse close to the main ticket office.
